Ski Lessons in Wengen with OASIS Ski Instructors

 

Wengen is one of the oldest ski resorts in the world and has  been an important destination for European travellers since the mid eighteenth century. When alpine skiing came to Murren, a small village higher up the valley in the early twentieth century, Wengen was a thriving all year round tourist destination too, dominated by the Eiger and Jungfrau massifs which tower above the town. At the start of the twentieth century the Jungfrau railway was built. It snakes up over the mountains to Grindelwald, splitting halfway at Kleine Scheidegg. One track carries on down to Grindelwald and the other winds up to the base of the Eiger where it enters a tunnel and continues through the mountains until it comes out at the top of the Jungfrau glacier at over 10,000 feet  A branch from Wengen to Murren was also constructed via Lauterbrunnen and trains still take skiers up the mountains today. The skiing in the Jungfrau region is excellent in every respect with the exception of beginners slopes, which are somewhat restricted but adequate all the same. The rest of the skiing is excellent for intermediates, experts and off piste enthusiasts alike. Wengen is easily accessible by road and the thirty minute train journey from Interlaken, every half hour during the day, makes the cheaper option of staying down in the valley an attractive alternative. Most of us have been giving ski lessons in Wengen for the past ten years. We know the area well including the surrounding ski areas of Grindelwald, First, Murren, Mannlichen and Kleine Scheidegg.
